Is Baby mooning just an Instagram trend?

Updated: Jan 30, 2020

Probably? but taking time out for you and your partner one last time before the arrival of a new human is no bad thing.

Our babymoon took place in November where we visited the Lake District and Manchester, UK. Financially and timing (of the year) may not mean that a babymoon is in the most glamorous of places, did I rather be on a beach somewhere? Sure! But with a February baby a winter babymoon in the UK it was!

What to consider when baby mooning:

1. Being fit to fly. When researching I found that between month 6 and 7 was the best time to go, always check with your midwife first and if you are flying somewhere make sure you take a fit to fly letter as each airline has different restrictions regarding what week you can fly up to.

2. Keep it short but sweet. For mine I chose 5 days, which allowed for it to feel like a break but not just a long weekend. Try not to fly too far and consider that your energy levels wont be the same pre pregnancy as they are at 6 or 7 months!

3. Take me time. With the arrival of a new human which comes with its own price tag, a babymoon and me time perhaps aren't on the top of your list. However, treating yourself to a night in a pricey spa is no biggie in the grand scheme of things. For our Babymoon we chose the Low Wood Bay in Windermere, Lake District which was recommended in the google searches for UK babymoons. They have specific treatments for baby on board and catered to every pregnant and non pregnant need. I found it essential to choose somewhere suitable for us both, immediately you think pregnancy and massages dont go together, however this hotel had treatments suitable for every part of the pregnancy journey and after. What I also liked was that they even had treatments for the man too, not just generic massages.

4. Take us time. Taking time as a couple is essential before another member comes along, it gives you time to really enjoy your last moments as a two whilst really soaking in the thoughts of the future.

5. Do what you love. In our case we love to eat and shop and with Christmas around the corner it felt right to return to our second home, Manchester and is a convenient one hour and half from the Lake District on the train.

All in all, if you can take a babymoon, do it - Who doesn't love a holiday! Especially if this is your first child, you are essentially 'free' to do so!

Until next time,

All our love,

Baby C and Me X
