Time management with a baby took me a while to suss and find the perfect balance for me. At the beginning when she was born and with the million and one things of admin to do, I found it impossible to balance everything and it is something which really got to me, I'm the type of person with a list to cross off on the day I plan to, having things go over to the next day or the next week really made me anxious. A prime example is cleaning my home, something I'm used to doing in one go and then its done, with a baby that is not possible or to be able to eat with your partner at dinner time without a crying baby - all of these situations surround time management and what works best for you.
Here are my three main tips to help you out:
1. Dont set your goals too high with regards to your to do list they will only set you out to feel like a failure when your not, your raising a human at the end of the day. So I used to clean my house in one go, now set out doing a room each day throughout the week*
**I found using The Hinch List note book a great way to break down any of my to do list throughout the week.**
This can also apply to that to do list you need to do in town, the weekly shop or presents you need to buy - pace yourself, if you get more done than you originally thought well then thats just a bonus.
2. Set your meal times around when your baby naps, you have that one solid hour or so to relax with your partner and eat in peace. At the beginning we found this very stressful at the thought of eating out, now we time it when shes due a nap and it works well for us. We tend to arrive at the restaurant before she sleeps and order once she is asleep or going to sleep so it arrives with good time.
3. Finding it hard to be on time with a baby? Go early, I leave myself 30-45 minutes to get where I need to go especially if she is due a nap in between, I would rather be out and about to nap her than deal with an over tired baby en route.
Everyone is different and every baby is different and perhaps the above isn't something which bothers you or doesn't work for you, which is also fine, but if like me you get anxious at the thought of being late, eating relaxed and getting things done then I hope the above helps.
All our love,
Baby C and Me X
